Project Information

Simple 36" modern kitchen table made from 8/4 maple, finished with Osmo Polyx matte. The three legs are glued to a center triangular block to maintain alignment more than add any real strength. Then an "interface disk" screws into the tops of the legs and into the bottom of the table. I just made up the design, so hopefully it won't split in half in 6 months ;) The holes in the disk are oversized to allow the top and the legs to expand without adding shear forces on the screws. This feels like the first piece of "real" furniture I've ever made, so even though it has plenty of mistakes I'm happy with the result.

I agree with Eyeore, great looking piece, don't see any mistakes as you mentioned. A smaller version would make a nice side table.

I like the design. Nice execution also. Does the Osmo Polyx hold up for tabletop use?

Thanks guys, appreciate the positive feedback.

As far as the Osmo, we'll see. I did 3 coats which is supposed to be able to handle water, coffee, etc after fully curing. They also make a "Top Oil" which adds more protection for counters and table tops, I didn't use that though. I did raise the grain prior to applying in case water soaked through at all (like it did on my test piece, but that had only sat for a week and likely wasn't fully cured). The ease of application and natural feel/appearance score A+ in my book, but as to the durability and maintenance, I can't say yet… fingers crossed!
