Bug box

Wanted to try this method of box making. Found a gnarly piece of walnut in my pile. Very buggy. I kind of like the contrast between the bug-eaten sapwood of the sides and the clear heartwood of the top. Made for my wife’s step-mom who needed a box for some sewing supplies. This is big enough for scissors and a few spools of thread.

Nice contrast and that walnut sure has some character.
I’m new to buggy wood. How did you treat it so the critters die?

Thankfully, they were dead by the time the wood came to me. I just had to clean out the dust left behind with a brass brush and compressed air.
