I made this octagon shaped table for our breakfast room. The table top and base (under the milk can pedestal) are walnut and spalted maple. The top is glued up in kind of a segmented fashion and the base is truly segmented. I started out with a rusted old milk can for the pedestal and sanded it up real smooth then painted it. Then I glued up and turned a base for the can to sit in. We have a small dairy and the can was in the old milk parlor that dates back to the 1940’s. The lettering on the can, Lutheridge Farm is the name of our farm. I hope these pictures aren’t sideways in the final posting. They are not in my picture gallery but when I upload them they are sideways and I don’t know how to change it. If they are, please excuse.

It looks beautiful!!!! Using the milk can as a pedestal is such a cool idea and makes it a heritage piece for the generations of your family. You should be very proud of this table, excellent work!

Hutch
PS: Could someone at Lumberjocks PLEASE make it easier for members to load photos in the proper orientation! I have brought this up several times before and it doesn’t seem like it would be too difficult. Everyone is having this problem and unless you know the workarounds this is what you end up with. We are woodworkers, not IT folks so please do something to make posting photos more intuitive and user friendly. Thank You

Hutchmp, I’m pretty sure it’s not the site that makes them sideways, I think its the poster’s. They will probably have to play around to see what works for them. I have put them directly on here from my phone, camera and from my photos from my computer. Haven’t had a problem yet. Now for the project, GCIMark, beautiful looking table and the finish sets it off nicely. Congrats on your ” DT3 ”. Great job !!! Mel
