Carved box for musical spoons

I made playable spoons for a friend of mine who sings with Apollo’s Fire, a professional Baroque group. Then I made this box to contain her spoons.

The box is made of walnut. The spoons are a set of walnut and a set of maple. They each have a distinct sound. She likes the maple ones, her percussionist friend likes the walnut set.

I finished it with Watco Danish oil.

Nice joinery Marsha! Walnut sure is a beautiful wood and a great selection for your wonderful box. The hand carving is next level work!!!

Nice box! I like the rosette on the lid. What is the liner made of? I’d also not heard of wooden spoons. Sound a lot like castanets, in use.

1st rate project, the carving is outstanding IMO.

Thanks everyone for your kind words. The box is lined with some scrap pieces of suede that I had. I just glued it in with regular wood glue.
