Small Walnut Table

A couple weeks ago my DIL commisioned a small table. She gave me dimensions – 25” high, up to 19” long and up to 15” deep with or without a drawer, my choice.
She prefers dark wood and even varigated so sapwood is just the ticket. I had one plank just big enough to make the top, sides and front including a drawer with the flowing sap wood. The back is from a second plank and solid dark walnut.
I made the drawer out of left over butternut from the giving hands I made last year, I just knew I was saving the leftovers for something. The drawer front is part of the original plank and keeps the flow going and has a finger pull, I didn’t want to drill the front for a pull and have one she wouldn’t like. The legs are walnut as well and include sap wood and breaks up the soild look a little more.

The final dimensions are 11 1/2” deep x 19” long and 25” high and the finish is wipe on polyeurathane

btw – The calico is the nosiest cat ever

here’s a couple pics of the dry fit

Thanks for looking and comments are accepted with open arms

That is a beautiful table. The sap wood blends perfectly you did a splendid job matching and blending the contrasting wood. A Superb job.

Thanks pottz, Obviously you don’t have a cat. We have 4 rescue cats that let us live here plus a garage cat that has a heat lamp over her sheep skin bed for winter comfort

That’s a beautiful table, really like the use of the wood orientation. You did a good job with incorporating the middle of the board as the drawer front, the continuous flow of the color pattern is super nice. Great work, and I’m sure your Daughter In Law will be happy with this.

Nice work! I like the way you incorporated the heartwood and sapwood. Clean joinery work there!

Great table Dick!
I agree the sapwood is artfully used and I like how it breaks up the panels. Beautiful!
I’m sure she absolutely loves it.

Nicely done on this table. The continuous grain with the sapwood is killer.

That’s a beautiful table Dick. As others have said the choice of the walnut with sapwood is a great choice. I love using it all the time. Nice match too with the sapwood on top and sides.

I like the Sapwood too, embrace the show Mother Nature gave you. So many would have cut that out, and lost such a nice detail. Great piece Dick.

That Cat was certain when it saw the camera that you wanted to take pics of her. Seeing you weren’t she was just birchin at ya. Typical Gato behavior.
