A deeply silly woodworking project here. I’m not much for gyms, but wanted to try some weight training, while watching TV or whatnot. But good dumbbells are hard to find/expensive. So I made one out of wood, using scraps from around my garage shop. It’s about 9.5 pounds, and the heads are hollow, so if I want it heavier I can drill a hole and fill it with sand, or lead shot or something.

Outer layers of the heads are solid hard maple, the inner layer is white ash (making a little mitered box around the edges), and the handle is cherry. Finished with Watco Danish oil.

Great idea of a single dumbie... leaves the other hand free for that mandatory alcohol beverage.

And light enough for SWMBO to do the exercising for you.
