Project Information

Modular, interactive bird houses were made for local traditional village fair. Idea was to interest kids for old local house construction methods and elements. I tried to show them, adopting those elements the best I could, on bird houses. Old houses were made of oak. So those 4 element were:

1. joining wooden houses elements with wooden dowels - I used 6mm beech dovels
2. roofs were cowered with wooden tiles - I cut 2mm thick oak tiles
3. corners were joined by crosing beams - I cut beams to overlap on corners
4. during construction all elements was marked before assembly - I marked all elements so kids could easily join them.

Mian body was made of firwood, than all covered with traditional material -oak.
All houses were assembled by kids.

Cute maj'...

Did you use your wooden hinges on those window shutters?
Can the shy birds shut the door for some privacy?

Is the house with the cracked tile a cheaper house for lower class birds?

Neat bird house, Ivan. It looks like a "kit" house. You reminded me that I need to make a new one to replace the real old one outside my barn window. If my great granddaughter was older than 2, I'd have her work with me on it as she likes to visit all the birdhouses in the yard when she come over.

Nice work on it…Cheers, Jim

Nice style birdhouse. That's a good idea to teach the young ones the constructive work. Add some running water and you have a birdbath too. Lol.

Very cute Ivan … but I can tell, lots of thought and work went into 'cute' for this fun project! What a great way to teach kids the finer art of old house construction!!
