Project Information

Technically, this was my first piece of furniture designed and built from scratch. Lots of mistakes along the way, but it was a good learning experience that yielded a suitable piece. The proportions are pretty goofy, but the space it was designed for restricted its length considerably. It was built for someone who wanted something to set their turntable on and display vinyls. They also wanted a place to store their wine and glasses and additional storage. Its a pretty eclectic mix, but the apartment it was made for was very, very tiny. Despite its odd proportions, it looks really quite good inside that little oddly shaped apartment building.

Fortunate for the owners, they have since moved to a larger, more normal shaped house. Unfortunately for them, the extra living space really highlights the stubby length of the buffet table? Record cabinet? Wine Rack? Pile of wood? Not sure what to call it, other than unique.

That is actually a very lovely piece with some great wood for a top. You should be very pleased.

It sounds like one of my first pieces of furniture. It was a jelly cabinet that had to straddle a radiator. Of course since the apartment kitchen had 10 foot ceilings I made it very tall. In the next place the legs were cut down by half to fit under 8 ft ceilings but still straddle a trash can. We still have the cabinet some 30 years later. It has been trimmed down to its final height of about 5 feet. You just can't keep a good piece of furniture down!!

Beautiful!
The word "thing" caught my attention but the top of the cabinet held it!
Stunning work.
