Another great swap in the books – and a special thanks to Dave P. for herding the cats this time! BBQ Swap 2020 is in the books though not without a little craziness on my part. I just couldn’t make up my mind on what to build and then when I got my recipient’s name I changed my mind again. Here are a couple of teasers of projects that seemed like a good idea at the time but didn’t make the final cut:

Steampunk Hamburger press – sounded great but I kept making it more and more complicated as I went and knew it would never be finished in time…

Giant T-Bone Box – was a great whimsical piece but between warpage issues, installation issues with the pop-up spice grinders and problems finding proper sized condiment packages for the inside I had to abandon this one too!
When I received Bill’s name I envisioned the perfect gift for his BBQ dining experience. I put together the sign using some of the elements I either bought or built in house.
Of course, if you want to be sure his wife will let him come out to play once in a while, you add a few bonus gifts that you know she will like as well! Proof that my theory worked is the fact that we will meeting for lunch at Biere de Mac (Under the Bridge) in a couple of weeks! Nothing like sharing good food, good beer and great conversation with friends after being virtually quarantineed for the last 5 months.
The wine caddy is cut out on the scroll saw, hand-carved with holes drilled on the drill press and uses furniture buttons for the grapes (I got this from one of the many magazines I subscribe to). And, YES, for you purists out there, I did use my CNC to carve the croissant box and a laser engraver to add my business logo. I do know how to use hand tools – but life is too short to limit what you can accomplish in the time you are given…

That sign is stunning Mike (though not as stunning as the bottle opener board you made for me! ;-) I like both caddys equally. But, I’m really curious about the Steampunk Hamburger Press :-)) Nice job!

Great sign and accudiments mikeacg.

Must admit I’m holding out till we can CNC in colour… hate painting nearly as much as gardenning, nearly as much as reading… all balanced out by love of vino!

Nevertheless I’m looking forward to you finishing off that Steampunk. Hey, you started it… and started it!

Thanks guys! (Though you are making me blush Duckmilk) Those projects will be finished at some point but I won’t have to worry about a deadline! I’ve got too much time into them already to not make them happen! Think cast iron frame members for the steampunk stuff (with a bit of sculpt nouveau to aid the deception!). I really like the giant T-Bone so you know that will be first on my schedule. I have all the parts now so it needs to happen!

You lost me at Steampunk Burger Press... You need to finish that bad boy!

Awesome work on all of it. But, I’ve asked you repeatedly to quit taunting me with the cool stuff you do with CNC. Oh well, even if I could carve that sign, I’d never come up with the idea and I sure as hell couldn’t paint it so nicely. It all makes a great package man ;-) I really like the wine caddy. I’ve seen many of those but never one with such a nice touch being carved. Bill’s a lucky fella!

Hokie’, You won me at wine caddy... Is that a nymph running after me with a cask of vino?
