The idea for this composition goes back 60 years to when I was an elementary teacher at my home town of Oakburn, Manitoba, After obtaining my Teachers’ Certificate at the Manitoba Teachers College in Winnipeg my first teaching position was a Grade 3 & 4 class in my home town. I had a wonderful time teaching the youngsters and had occasion to do playground duty.
There was always something interesting going on the playground and one especially comes to mind was the groupings of young girls talking or ? in out of the way hideaways. You know that something was going on with the loose fitting circle of girls talking to each other. There was always the leader, the listeners and the lookout person. I referred to these groupings as Secret Huddles. The pointed types of mushrooms depict their pointed hats bending to cover up the conversation. Now I bet that some of you have some interesting secrets to share?!!

The caps are spalted birch, stems are curly willow and the base is cedar.
Finished with shellac and topped with a spray-on matte varnish.

Enjoy!
