Word got around that a neighbor lad was asking about a LFL so I volunteered to build one. Living in the Pacific NW I thought a cottage with a cedar roof would be appropriate. Most of the material I had on hand except for the hinges, plexiglass, and a roll of double sided adhesive glazing tape. A half sheet of 1/2” plywood, and a cedar 2×4 made up the bulk of the materials. All the box joints were rabbeted or dadoed, and joined with glue and pocket screws. Roof sheathing is a 1/8” underlayment which was glued down with screws to hold it in place – screws were removed after the glue set. The last picture shows the upside down mounting platform with brackets for the post attachment. Fun project to build in spite of all the head-scratching to figure out the details. My apologies for the portrait snapshots turned on their sides – I should know better by now.

Very clever idea and build.
Where will you place it and what type of books will be stocked in it.
Will it have wifi?

Great build. I need to make one of these for my neighborhood.

Thanks for the comments. The idea behind the LF Library is that anyone can take a book or leave a book so there will be a variety of genres. Our neighbor up the street is hosting the site at their lot since their son requested it. It will be up to them to to provide WIFI at the curb if they want to host that too. That turned out great. Really like the design and concept of LFL
