This is a collaboration project with my good buddy Craig Newton. Craig shows us how to make an interesting inlay on a walnut background. We also used a 4 way book matched rosewood crotch burl for the inside of the of the lid. The box is made with red oak. I flocked the inside with green flocking. The latches are for a boat locker from Amazon. Enjoy and remember to stay safe in your shop!

Great looking project. I really like the rifle too, I have a sweet spot for black powder though.

Neat job.

Just remember to assemble it before use… otherwise it’ll shoot your eye out when you pull the trigger.

Stain the keepers brown. Their light color is jarring and draws the eye away from your fine work.

I would have used a different (perhaps countersunk?) screw head rather the zinc hex heads. Maybe some nice brass round head screws? Again the contrast is jarring.

Myself, I try to make the fit tight enough that nothing moves even without the keepers.

Nice looking case, 54 cal? That was a lot of flocking!
