Here’s one I finished a couple of years ago. I forgot now who’s design I copied, but the bird is different. Walnut with birds eye maple clock face. You can’t see it but the walnut grain continues around the side.

Cutting the top and bottom was a real challenge. I made a jig for the bandsaw so it would follow a template. I was able to use the template to create a matching curve on the main body and the ends.

Here’s a tip. I knew this was going to go in our bedroom and I can’t stand to hear a ticking clock. I found out they make a silent quartz movement. It really is quiet.

Your marquetry skills of nature and birds continue to impress!
Wish I had the skill since these would attract a lot of attention around home with all the birders in the area!

Thanks. I don’t come by it naturally. Just lots of failed attempts and a desire to get better.

Birds are a lot easier than fuzzy animals. That’s one thing I’m working on.

Nicely done. Very creative unique looking clock.

Very nice, I might try to make something similar in the future. Was the top piece bent, or cut out of a thick piece of stock?

Thanks. The top and bottom were cut out of thick stock. I thought about bending something, but 1) I’m not set up for bending anything and 2) it’s a small enough piece that it didn’t seem to matter. You can see the grain go straight across, but it’s not that noticeable.
