Another small box, 6” x 3” x 2 1/2”. To make the base of the box I glued up three layers, the first layer is solid walnut, the middle layer contains the checkerboard pattern (walnut and maple) surrounded by two solid walnut pieces and the third layer is solid walnut. All three layers are cut at one time on the CNC. The second to last photo shows the base being cut. The top is made in a similar manner, but this time a narrow strip of walnut containing the checkerboard is in the center surrounded by two solid strips of walnut (last picture).
