Son and wife wanted a pair of nightstands, I wanted to make it unique so I integrated a wireless charger into the top. They wanted a C-table, hence the design. Slight taper on upper and lower leg supports for interest. The project is all Cherry with a wipe on poly finish. As part of building this project, it was necessary to determine what the max thickness of wood through which the charger would work. This turned out to be 3/32 inch with a light case on the phone (with an Anker Charger 20-25$). It is important to center the phone over the location of the wirless charger to get a good connection. In order to locate the center from the top side, I added a walnut plug in the center of the recess. The plug was added first before routing the back recess. Didn’t want to try to install a plug after the recess was made due to how thin the wood would be. This was an enjoyable project that required making a femplate to complet the slight curve on the front of top as well as one for the charger recess. I used pocket holes for the support and then 5/8 inch Cherry dowel to plug the pocket holes. The button for the phone center was made with a 1/4 inch forstner bit and a plug cutter for the walnut. I hadn’t tried this previously but worked like a champ.
