Finished my my maple TV stand with a shelf for players and a shelf with a door for the DVD’s

The construction is, frankly, stupidly simple. Three dado’s in the end panels, glue it up. The sides extend just above and just below the shelving, eliminating the need for dovetails or even moderately more simple joinery. The base is just four boards lap jointed. Find a fancy piece of lumber for the door and you’re done.

I ended up with some way too large hinges on the door to make it open really wide. I could have gone with a piano hinge, but I didn’t want the hinging to be visible, so, giant door hinges.

The dowels on the side that appear to be joinery are fake, and only penetrate about 3/16”. They, too are easy to make. I have that dowel guide in the last image. Rockler, Lee Valley, and Woodcraft all sell them. Drill out the big dowel, change the drill guide to a smaller size, drill another hole, insert the smaller dowel. Easy when you know the trick.

I like the straightforward clean design, well done.
