Posting this one mostly as a reminder to myself that I need to do an updated version!

After I started to accumulate a few guitars, I realized I needed a place to keep them safe. I didn’t like the metal pipe style guitar racks in the store, so I decided to to make a guitar stand. This was probably one of my first real wood projects, and my tools were limited to an old Black and Decker drill/jig saw combo. It also had to be somehting I could build on the small balcony of our apartment without drawing too much ire.

The wood is just regular old cheap pine. The guitars rest on two angled cross boards which are mounted to the “feet” and uprights. The piece that holds the guitar necks is just one piece of pine jigsawed out (poorly). The inside of the neck area is lined with black felt as are the angled cross boards the butt of the guitar sits on. The spacing between neck holes is varied, some closer for electrics, and then two wider apart for acoustics. The rest are just screwed directly into each other. I hadn’t even heard of pocket holes yet. This was the first time I used stain, and it shows. I used it like paint, instead of wiping it off. It has held up well, I still use it, but needs to be replaced. I’m looking forward to checking out different options here!

Good job. I am about to build one myself. I currently have way too many guitars and the walls are covered!

tell me about it…this holds 4 of 9 guitars, and that’s after a culling.

I think guitars are like clamps. You can never have too many.

Nice inspiration. Definitely going to Favorite this one.
