Project Information

My oldest daughter is getting married and heading off to graduate school. I wanted to build her a dining table for apartment living, but could also see extras as needed.

Got the twist and flip idea from a Fine Woodworking article.

Was a fun build, and got the whole thing made out of a single slab. I love working with slabs. Lets pick the grain I want, and you get uniform color and grain. (mostly :) )

The top rotates 90 degrees to a stop, then folded top opens up into its larger position.

I used SOSS hinges for the folding top. Took some experimenting to get them mounted without a huge gap when closed.

The top rotates on a 3/8×24 tpi bolt that I welded a square plate to with a hole in it so once installed, I could screw the plate to the carrier so it wouldn't fall out after much rotating.

Fun build!

What are the dimensions? Folded? Unfolded?

Steve,

That's a very attractive table and the unfolding feature makes it especially nice. What a great gift. Thanks for sharing.

Beautiful work. Well done. That's an interesting design and I love the fold away mechanism. Do you happen to know what issue it came from?

Thanks for the dimensions. At 26" wide, it will carry through a door easily enough.

Very nice. Clever way to make an expanding table.
