I had pruned the Paper Bark Trees in the Back Yard about a year ago.
Sorry I don’t have any progress pictures. I was so keen to complete this project that I totally forgot.

Basically it was this method that i followed.

Cut the Branches into workable lengths.

Hand plane to get some flats so they could be sliced on the Band Saw.

Cut to desired Thickness and glued together to create a Board approx 8 X 8 inches X 1/2 Thick.

Pattern from Carole Rothman Wooden Bowls from the Scroll Saw.

Placed on the Board with Adhesive Spray

Rings cut on the Scroll Saw at 28deg Angle.

Then Stacked and glued. then sanded

The finish is Danish Oil.

This wood is very soft and just drank up the oil as fast as I could apply it and.it took about 10 coats just get to the stage where it looked like it was okay.

Its a funny sort of wood, very close grain, white in colour, but there are splotches of red here and there on the wood when cut.
I I had lined up the strips better it would have spread the red colour out a bit. But I didn’t really know what I was doing, I was flying blind.
To sum up….It’s a funny looking Bowl…looks a bit like a pudding…Ha Ha Ha.

I hope you like it.

Kind regards,

Cliff

Yes those sides of the bowl are really cool Cliff. I like the red in it too similar to our box elder tree. I’m always looking for bigger pieces but you did it with branches. Nice work.

I’m impressed – scroll sawing a bowl is not an easy task and this bowl came out great !
