This is my first Bud Vase. Not Sure what the Wood is. My Neighbours were Pruning their Shrubs and gave me a heap of small to medium size logs last July. I have the logs sitting on racks drying out with their ends wax sealed.
However one small piece looked ready to be Milled and Turned, so here was my chance.

The Vase is 7 inches Tall or 177 mm. The Plastic insert is 4 inches long or 102 mm.

The insert hole was pretty easy to drill. I Put a drill Chuck with a Number 2 Morse Taper in the Tail Stock and Chucked the end of the vase in a 4 Jaw Chuck in the Head Stock. And to my astonishment all went well.
After Turning to shape and sanding, it was finished with 5 coats of Danish Oil, then when it was dry I rubbed it with a dry cloth to get a sheen.

I am looking forward to supprising my Neighbours by gifting it to them.

Kind regards,

Cliff.

Very nice Cliff, like the grain, wonder what shrub it was. Neighbours will certainly be surprised to receive it.
Well done, keep having fun.

Thank you Bob. Not knowing what a particular Shrub is, Is very frustrating. So many of them look alike.

Cliff.

Very nice vase Cliff. Be sure to ask them what kind of shrub it was. The stripes on it look so perfect. Any brighter and we could possibly call it a candy cane.

Dave, Thank you. The Neighbours don’t know what it is either…..but I have quite a lot of it left, I thought it might be possible to photograph a log and sent it to the appropriate Dept…Maybe Forestry because I think it is a native shrub. we have so many trees that look alike here.. ...I think Candy Cane would be a very good choice.

Cliff.
