It was way past time for a bookcase. I am still using a pine one made by my dad in the 60’s….and since the last move and the “your stuff/my stuff” event(s) I have had my books in rubbermaid totes in storage.

The design is a simple modern (functionality) take on the Arts and Crafts style. Here it is:

I made two, one to keep and one to sell. The “keeper” has all of the blemished wood. Or as my furniture selling friend calls it “character”. This was the absolute last of a large load of quartersawn white oak I picked up a few years ago.

The lighter one is Minwax Pecan stain then four coats of Osmo. The darker one destined to leave is Transtint Medium Brown, cut with alcohol, then sealed with General Finishes Seal a Cell, then glazed with GF’s Walnut gel stain and finally finished with with three coats of GF’s Armor Seal in Satin. Each were rubbed out with #0000 before the last coat. The finish is hard to capture in images, but the four step process makes a stunning impression. It is designed to mimic a Stickley finish called “Aurora”.

Each has three adjustable shelves and two fixed.

The plan (Sketchup) is available on my website (free)

I did a video series on the assembly if you want to follow along on how it was made or make one (or two!). Links to the videos are in the build blog about these.

Excellent job, strange how excited I get when the rays appear? Good idea to keep the OSMOs finished one for yourself:) Should of popped in a few Ebony plugs and market it as Greene n Greene?

Oh yeah, I like it!!! My guess is that the quality and craftsmanship is much better than one Stickley might make these days.
