My cool younger bro wanted to make longboards back when they were the hottest college accessory. Make them we did. Maple and mahogany.

Okay, that’s just cool. The way it is worded it looks like they might have been made awhile back. How’d they work out?

Back in or around 1965ish people where taking metal strap on skates, you know the old 50’s versions with the key to adjust them and with the back and front half pulled apart… then banging the metal flat and mounting the rear and front halves to a board. I did the same. It was about 16” long and fairly narrow and cut out in the shape of a rocket. We’d board down the neighborhood hill sidewalk. The metal wheels made a loud noise on the concrete. Lots of bloody knees too. I don’t know when this craze started but it may have been around that time maybe.

Oh boy I bet that must have turned like a dream! Rocket shaped skateboards sounds like an idea that’s prime for revival though. The longboards turned out great. The only tweak we ended up making was adding 1/4” riser plates between the trucks and the board because the wheels were biting on hard turns.
