I made these shelves out of 3/4 inch pine boards with a thin plywood back. The boards are cupped a bit, but using clamps you can straighten them out for glueing. This must be why so many people use plywood!

I used to make bookshelves to store books that no one will ever read again.
After a while I decided to donate the books so now my shelves are full of “nick-knacks” that collect dust.
Tucked in that corner, yours sure looks like a good use of space.
