Got a request to replace the worn out Wren bird house at my mother-in-laws. Wrens like a 1-1/8” diameter hole, bigger holes let other bird species in. You are also not supposed to have a perch bar for wrens. On the old birdhouse, bigger birds had tried to peck away and enlarge the hole.

When I took the old wren house apart, I was surprised it was full of twigs, with just enough room at the top for a little nest at the back.

The new Wren house is made of all cedar, which should last for a while. Within a few hours of installing the new wren house, a wren was already starting to build a nest in it :)

For more details, see my woodworking web site.
