Pickle Jar Squirrel Feeder

Missed out on the picnic table squirrel feeder thing that was going around for a while but did manage to build this for my sister in law from a picture she sent me. The obvious starting point was acquiring a gallon glass jar. Professional cheapskate tip: why pay 15 bucks for one on Amazon when Costco will sell you one for 5 dollars and it comes with full of pickles… lol. After many a pickle, I used the jar to lay out the rest of the project. Found the most important part to be the little wooden disc that holds the jar in place. It has to have enough flex to allow the jar to be removed for filling but also be snug enough to hold the jar in place. A four inch hole for the jar mouth and a couple of 3 1/2” holes to admit the critters in question and poof it’s a squirrel feeder. I dont like her that much so I left it up to her to paint it the colors of her choosing…. LOL

Wow, you made a place for the squirrels to go inside and eat. I never seen one like this before, interesting. I’m wondering how long it will take to empty that 1 gal jar. Cool feeder Buster.

Buster, you seem to be making a habit of posting unfinished projects. I may start following your lead. I know a squirrelly woman (not me) that loves Pickles. She maybe could be a jar source for you! Nice feeder.

Dave- thank you buddy. Those lil buggers can clean out our bird feeders in a couple of days so I am guessing not far to empty on this thing if they invite friends over for dinner like those in our backyard frequently do!!!

Candy- thank you buddy-ett. I am working on being the unfinished project king of the southeast ..lol having a jar source would be great. Don’t get wrong, I like a good pickle every once in a while but their were quite a few cucumbers that had to give their life for this project…lol

Another fine job by BustreB!! Nice looking feeder. Given your relationship with this lady, you may get a pleasant surprise. Does she have a shed? I made a feeder just like that, worked great. Four gray squirrels found it quickly. Soon after, they started eating my shed. I recycled the glass, burned the feeder, shot four squirrels, skun, cleaned, threw them in with wife’s slow cooker roast, some yummy! Glad I didn’t paint mine for sure. Anyway, great project, buddy.

Buster, this is a cool squirrel feeder project. I have never seen one before. Here is another project you can build to get them to leave after they have eaten….LOL!!!

Nice.
When I was growing up, my uncle made one of those; except he called it a squirrel trap?
He placed a rat trap in bottom of jar with some corn, kept aunt’s stew pot full.

I’d love to build one, but we don’t have squirrels in Arizona desert trees?

Thanks for the memory.
