I made this as a gift and surprise for a friend. He is a writer as a 2nd career and he has recently had three of his short films produced. I wanted to send him a nice fountain pen and make a box for it. I am embarrassed to say how long it has been since I made anything decent or posted here. The pandemic has given me some extra time at home and I was finally able to get this finished. As you’ll see there is a very obvious screw up on this one. I am certain that the miters were perfect when I cut them but somehow I got the box out of square when I glued and clamped it up. By the time I noticed it, it was too late. I tried to minimize it as much as possible after the fact, but in the end I had to just roll with it. The box is Mahogany and the splines and lid insert are Walnut. The inside cushion is synthetic suede over closed cell foam, over a wood block and mated to a steel plate for weight. The finish is three coats of semi-gloss poly rubbed down with steel wool between coats. The hinges are Brusso stop hinges.

Thanks for looking and take care,

Joe Mags

Nice looking box and pen, Perfection is after all just a Perception! So I am told!
