This is my first real project from scratch besides building a little router cabinet for a steel Veritas top I found on Craigslist. I’ve done some trim work around the house, laid some wood flooring in our guest room, but this is first furniture/built-in type project I’ve done.

My wife decided on the design and I started cutting, no plans, and was just winging it. I used a track saw, router table for rabbets and raised panels, and a Jack Plane for joining the Black Walnut boards and for final surface planing. There lessons learned for sure on cabinet making.

This was also my first project in using a hand plane and sharpening blades. Great experience and enjoyed it greatly. Don’t space for planers and table saws so I’ve enjoyed working the wood by hand. It’s a Veritas Jack Plane.
