This recent work is titled ‘Konstpinnar’ which translates to ‘art sticks’ in English. It is a sculpture whose theme addresses issues of the corporate consumer-marketing industry. The Giacometti-like figures (sticks holding the heart-shaped ‘snacks’) are hand-carved from elm, while the heart-shaped pieces are carved from Baltic birch, elm and chestnut. The cellophane wrapped box is constructed of melomine with exterior graphic laminations.
The term ’Ögongodis med hjärta’ is Swedish for ’eye candy with heart’.
The size of this wall piece is 52.5 cm x 12 cm x 48 cm. (l x d x h).

Nice!
Love the carved Giamcometti figures and you definitely have a tongue in check sensibility about your art. Great presentation with the cellophane box.
Thanks for sharing.

Thanks Jon… I try to put a bit of whimsy into my critiques of capitalism and other social issues. Glad you enjoyed it.

Wow that it so nice also all hand-carved just up my street and excellent work, would you mind if I copy the design to attempt to create these in olive wood.
Warm regards
Pete

Absolutely Pete, go for it. You can pay me by sending me a large box of χαλλούμι. I do so love that cheese. Just kidding… Start carving up that olive wood. ... I wished freight prices were cheaper, I would love to send you blocks of elm wood in exchange for some of that big olive tree.
I inherited 9 large mature old, dead & dry elm trees when we moved to this new place in Sweden so kind of have a similar story to yours about coming into lots of wood. It started me on the road to handcarving wood, though I’ve had decades of artistic expression in numerous other media prior. Love the wood!
I actually carved one small spoon from olive wood while on the south of Crete about 8 years ago. A small branch I found alongside the road… gave me something to do for the afternoon while on the beach. Would love to see pictures later of how it turned out for you with the idea.
