Yet another Pony Rocker

When I saw April Wilkerson’s YouTube video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vPt_99A0_UM for a very cute small rocking elephant I thought that I might make one for my neighbour’s son, but although April could supply CNC ready cut templates in the US, she had not yet produced downloadable print versions suitable for me in the UK. Needing something to do urgently in our virus lockdown, I therefore decided to make another pony rocker like the ones I made previously https://www.lumberjocks.com/projects/386505 – since I still had the templates. Halfway through construction, Avril sent me an email advising that downloadable print templates WERE now available, but I shall have to wait for the next child candidate for a rocker to send for those.

I used the laminated pine strips ‘timberboard’ again rather than MDF, but had to contend with bits splitting off as I routed around the patterns, which required quite a few areas needing Bondo-type filler – which had to be coloured from white to try to match the pine. What a pain! Perhaps using MDF, and painting – with its delays for drying – rather than easy Danish Oil finishing, would be preferable if I make another.

Later . . . I think he likes it!

Real nice rocking horse, Don. I’m working on my first one right now.
