Padauk Easel

I had a couple of pieces of Padauk leftover from the Memory Box project and my girlfriend wanted a small, table-top easel. The interesting part is the hinge at the top. It’s a piece of 1/8” dowel that only goes in about 3/16 as I didn’t want it to go all the way through. I drilled a 1/16” hole from the top of each leg so that it went through the dowel and I cut off a #17 nail to fit and pushed it into the hole with a nice pressure fit. I did the same thing to strengthen the joints of the legs to the shelf.

Thanks for stopping by.

Nice work! I really dig the taper in the legs. Super clean/classy.

Thanks! I found enough left-overs that were already cut for the shelf to make 4 more. I’ll make one for a friend of mine and I think my girlfriend will take the rest and sell them to some of her artist friends.
