Barrel Stave Projects

As happens every Spring, I and a couple of buddies put together a project for the local parochial school auction/dinner; this year we had two wine barrels donated to us, so we thought of building a wine tasting table and stools. All materials came from the barrels with the exception of some 3/4” CDX Ply for the table substrate and a 6” length of 4×4 oak that was tapered to give the attached stave legs a desired splay and solid attachment (with screws). The stool seats and table top came from the barrel ends and the rings were cut from the originals.

Having a lot of barrel material left over (and some extra time), we fashioned a few accessory items as well, they being:

(1) Two candle holders, one convex with a curved taper toward the middle, and one concave with a reverse camber base
(2) A lazy susan (the candle in the center covers a hole made for a picnic table umbrella),
(3) A wine glass caddy (sorry, I don’t drink wine, but the wine bottle version can be seen in the candle holder pics), and
(4) A two seat bench (the pic which I have since lost).

If I never see another compound curved piece of wood again, it will be to soon.

The project was delivered in time for the annual event on the second week of March which was promptly cancelled two days prior due to some rumored viral outbreak. I’m sure you all have heard about it. Hopefully the event will be rescheduled.

Those are really cool. They’d work great in a Man Cave.

Nice repurposing projects!
Tables and chairs are cool. I like that you carried the repurposed staves to so many projects.
Great work!

Very creative!

Those barrel parts seem perfect for those projects, I can;t believe I’ve never seen it done before.

Very nice work. Very nice. I don’t work with barrels, and I don’t want to work with barrels. Then I see this project ….
