Bathroom Tray

A little mitered tray I put together to hold my hair cutting gear in the bathroom.

The sides are made out of some handy leftovers—I think probably African mahogany, but might have been cherry. They are dyed and stained with a couple of tints of red mahogany, then finished with BLO and wipe-on poly. The tray bottom is oak from the local home center, finished with BLO and wipe-on poly.

All done with hand tools. The finger hole on one end is off-center (grr, I don’t know how that happened) and I didn’t quite plane the ends down to the same thickness as the sides, so the miters are not quite perfect. But overall it’s fine.

One thing I like about woodworking is being able to spend a couple of days to build something that custom fits a need. Very satisfying!

That’s a great design for a tray, well done. I’ve wanted to make a tray or two, now I’m inspired. Thanks!!

I agree with your last comment Scott.

Something that fits the area available and is appropriate for the task is very rewarding work.
