I made a Shaker End Table for my daughter’s birthday. She was really excited since she needs her own place to do homework and work on stuff now that school is shutdown and she is home all day with her younger siblings.

Design: The design was based off of an article by Christopher Schwarz’s in Popular Woodworking, as well as his instructional video produced by Lie Nielsen.

Method: I used a combination of power tools and hand tools for this build. I used my table saw, jointer and planer for dimensioning the lumber, a router and chisels to cut the mortises, lathe to turn the knob, and hand tools to taper the legs and top and dovetail saw for the joinery for the saw.

Material: I am a wood hoarder and have accumulated a good amount of wood cutoffs from local cabinetmakers. I used various Walnut cutoffs for this table, along with some Poplar for the drawers

Finish: I used Odie’s Oil for the first time and am happy with the result

For simple beauty I’ve always thought this table a winner, truly a classic. Looks as if you did a great job on it.

I like it. Though that first photo made me do a doubletake. I thought it was a three legged table.
