It’s a pic of an acrylic pen blank I turned. Posted the pic as part of the required 6 posts I have to post before I can write a question to john English to ask him about directions he has for his interlocking cubes cutting board…. Which actually has a couple mistakes on the renderings on the main post.

Pretty much! Had to join to send an email…. Then found out I have to make 5 posts before I can send another member an email. Gotta wonder what the next hurdle will be?? I post all my projects on the regular in Facebook groups, without all the hidden hurdles….

well the reason is to “try” and keep the spammers out, this forum has been hit hard with that crap, our moderator cricket has been earning her money cleaning it up,so thats the reason.be patient and trust me it will be worth it.if you love woodworking youve come to the best place to learn and share.and that pen pen is bad ass.keep it coming.

Normally I welcome worthy newbies here at LJ as we are prepared to assist and share ideas…. Sounds like you want the attention of a member, however, statements like that will not endear you to the community and if whoever you wanted to contact saw your attitude he may just tell you to go to Facebook where there are no hurdles…

If you do manage to become a fledged member, please ensure you put me on your blocked list.

harsh words but after consideration i intend to agree.when you posted your pen blank with no explanation and i questioned you,you said oh it’s just to get posts.you have talent but you have just lost our vote of confidence as a new member.sad but now you you need to get that back,or just leave.not the best way to enter a new forum.i tend to be easy i guess.

I am curious as to where the WOOD in this project is? Acrylic pens and CNC Projects have no place here on Lumber Jocks!

Personally I’d cut him some slack Andre... Many LJ’ers make pens out of non-timber (acrylic, stone, aluminium, antler, buffalo horn to name a few… and I don’t know any more)... The CNC uses a router which is one of a woodworkers primary tool.

It’s the approach for motives that are questionable.

Thank you guys, for helping me to achieve the required number of posts! Didn’t mean to sound rude, just didn’t like the hurdles…..
Now just to answer a couple of y’alls questions…
Both the turned pen blanks and finished pen blanks are hybrids… Polyester resin over pinecone for the blue one, and resin with Hawaiian Koa on the dragon pen.
These are hand turned on lathe, not cnc. Automation is nice, but takes all the fun out of it in my opinion!
And my apologies for just showing the blue blanks before final assembly, but my high res pic files were all too big to transfer, and that was the first smaller file I came across.

“Appology” accepted Gwar’... Unfortunately, LJ has a limit to file sizes…. I usually reduce my happy snaps to 1200 pixels per longer dimension… It will accept higher resolution but you don’t really gain in the detail. For my sake (I have this phobia) please don’t post any sideways pictures and we’ll remain friends… For reduction in size and orientation you may need to do some manipulation on your PC before uploading. Not wanting to teach egg sucking, if you are aware of metadata, I’ll shut up, however, if not this link might give you a few hints.

So let’s start again and….. Welcome to LJ!... Generally most members are very amicable and will go out of their way to assist whether it be a newbie, novice or a pig headed veteran (of which we have an abundance)...

We do have some hassles/limitations on this forum and may not be as free flowing as Facebook, however, this is a “private” forum not funded by a bottomless wallet and the work-arounds are not a total PIA.

May I suggest you set up your home page, tell us a bit about yourself (the more details you reveal, the more we can tease you in 20 years time), pictures of your workshop (even if it’s your back yard) and enjoy your stay here.

PS. I’m a nobody here… so sucking up to me won’t earn you any additional brownie points. Welcome again.

OK. Let’s cut the new guy some slack. He would have no knowledge of our spam issues. Yes, his comment was a little snarky and more pics and description would have been nice but that aside, I disagree that his project has no place here. It is made with a lathe and it is made with pine cones which are wood. If this project belongs here and can receive accolades then so does his. And he made the daily top 3! (which we still haven’t figured out how that whole thing works anyway)

I never thought that I shouldn’t post my pens here but I don’t because lj’s isn’t the best place for pens. That would be IAP where his pen would be welcomed and applauded as a first project. We seem to harbor a bit of snobbery for pen makers here which is sad. Pen makers are woodworkers.

I’m a little insulted that some may think that my pens aren’t welcomed here.

Pine cones in resin

Stabilized dyed walnut burl with resin

Maple burls in resin

How about my walnut burl and resin bottle stopper?

Welcome to lj’s. But if you are into making pens as part of your woodworking then IAP is the place with a wealth of knowledge.

Nice job on the pen blank especially with the pearlescent look in the dark blue resin. Not an easy effect to create. Looks like stars in the night sky. How did you achieve that effect?
