Square Yarn Bowl

This square yarn bowl was made from female box elder wood- some that was laying under my bench from last year that I almost threw away. it is 5”x5”x5” inside and the walls are 3/8” thick. It is finished with satin wipe on poly.
This is the reason I made the miter sled that I posted a few days ago. The corners of the sides and bottom are all mitered to just clamp with a bungee cord and glue together.

cheers, Jim

Nice, I made a yarn bowl that was bowl shape but I like the box shape. I may have to make one and have my daughter give to the lady she gave the last one to. Might be another blanket in it for me. Keep the projects coming.

The miter sled prevailed Jim. The miters look tight enough and strong. Some nice red showing too.

Soon as I( saw the red flash I thought Box Elder.
That is really cool Jim, just 1 question, do you have to have square balls of wool to go with it??? LOL

Great job mate.

Bob

-- Bob, Western Australia, The Sun came up this morning, what a great start to the day. Now it's up to me to make it even better. I've cut this piece of wood 4 times and it's still too damn short.

Thank you all for the nice comments.

Hi Bob, these square bowls are a lot easier to make than a round one and you don’t have to have such a big chunk of wood to start with to get 5” inside.

Hi Bob The round ball spins around in there just fine..no need to wind a square one!!!! I did make a skein bowl that is rectangular and you can feed the yarn from the center of the skein out the end or put 2 round balls in there and feed them out the 2 slots in the side, unfortunately, my wife decided were going to make a run for home when the virus hit, that the bowl is still in Az and not finished.

Cheers, Jim

I never cease to be delighted with that Female Box Elder ….I love the reddish Colour that sweeps through the wood….

Nicely constructed shape . Do you need much weight to hold in place while the yarn is being used.
