Robins Nest--No social distancing

Last few days I’ve had so many robins in my yard you would think you were in the movie Birds. These guys are sure not practicing social distancing. Every year I see them here but not like this year. So this morning I thought I would give them a nice home.
Made from Maple logs I sliced up and finished with varnish. I used pocket hole screws for the entire project. It should last a few years. As soon as it dries it will be out there. Hopefully tomorrow.
It’s about 8×8 x 8’’ This might also keep them from making a nest on top of the garage lights.

they will surely appreciate your effort.

The other day at Lowes, I watched a Morning Dove building a nest on the steel pipe behind the exit sign at the outdoor garden area.

Nice nest box Dave! We love watching our Bluebird nest box. “No Social distancing”. LOL!
This year was the first time in 17 years we have seen a Robin on our yard. We have many Bluebirds and other type of birds but we were surprised to see a few Robins this year.
Nice work! Love that DD Stamp!

Nice Dave. I’ll bet they still nest on your light too! They are birds of habit. You’ll get the new generation in your box!!

cheers, Jim

Nice, Dave! We’re just about to time to hang up the hummingbird feeders here. It’s real windy here this week; I think I’ll put them out once the spring winds let up a little, hopefully next week.

I thought about making something like this but every year they build a nest in the awning over my back door. my yard is very small so i dont think i need another nesting place. Besides they already started building one. Nice job!

Nice box, Dave. Please do whatever you can to attract the robins to Downer’s Grove. I’m in Aurora and they eat all the cherries off my trees! They’ll land on the branch above me and eat my cherries WHILE I”M PICKING THEM! If they had any more brass, they’d be a bell.

Dick, that’s a good one. I know they like to build in some odd places but around the light made me worry. This way they can have something and stay away from the fixture.

Hi Tony. We are blessed when it comes to birds. With all the mature trees around here we see all kinds. We have quite a few cardinals around too but never see a nest near by. But something seems to be attracting the robins this year. Maybe with the mild winter and a early spring they’re all out at once? Anyway I’ve always liked them and hopping to see them sticking around for awhile.

Jim for the last 2 years I stick pieces of wood over the light. They also like our patio awning but every time you go in or out they fly over your head and make you jump. So I had to block that too.

Dave those hummingbirds are a pleasure to watch. We get lucky sometimes and see them out our front window nears the flowers.

Rich, I just replied that to Jim. Whenever you open the door they would take off and make you jump. Hopefully they move in their new home.

Thanks Lee. I’m not the biggest bird lover around but I do like watching them in the morning over coffee.

ddockstader, that cracks me up. Yes they can be a nuisance sometimes but I’m glad I don’t have that problem. I guess you have to learn to share more with them. LOL. OK, I’ll keep them this year and next year you can have them back.

Thanks kdc68. If it makes them happy it makes me happy too. They seem to be the only noise I hear around here lately.
