I’m keeping my distance from my friends being free carving some new things.

Picture number 2 shows the mushroom blanks I cut out with my bandsaw using some Douglas fir laminate. It was a piece wood 2×2, an off-cut thrown my way. The blanks are cut as one piece showing a rough head and a highly irregular stem.
With my power carving burrs, I rough out the blanks to a rounded form, sand and seal with a lacquer. I gave the caps a light coating of reddish stain called ‘gunstock orange’. Then the fun begins as I plan the final mount of the mushrooms on a hardwood base. This arrangement reminds me of 3 girls shopping for new spring hats! I am sure you can see this picture.

While those mushrooms look very good, may I suggest that you don’t be tempted to sample them whilst in isolation.
