A couple friends saw my Mallets from the Mallet Swap and asked if I could make one for them using heirloom wood. The first and largest is a Ironwood (Hophornbeam) with a Maple handle both from my buddy’s Hunting Camp. The second is Maple with an Oak handle both from a friend’s backyard. The third is another Ironwood with a American Cherry handle and the last is Pear from my backyard also with Cherry. All in all a fun set of mallets to build all going to good homes.

There’s nothing like a good assortment of different size mallets…..!! One size does not fit all…!

Mallet making is addictive. Looks like you caught the bug, but I don’t see any dice mallets….

Did you put finish on them?

No finish yet which is why they are so pale. This morning I’m limited to Bacon Grease or Pledge. Seems my other finishes are pretty well shot and I had to pitch them. So I need to make a run to the Hardware Store. Any recommendations?

Very nice. And your gifts were to be used. please see my site for my reproduction mallot for another purpose showing a few features you might like in another look. I could have sold yours when I was marketing. Thanks.

Bacon grease and pledge actually sounds plausible, but for tools I make, I generally stick to BLO and wax.

Nicely done assortment.

I suppose “mallet time” for the subject doesn’t have the same ring as “hammer time”.
