This isn’t a self-portrait but is based on self-experience and people I served with in the Navy. 18 years old and wet behind the ears, the world can be an eye-opening experience when you first leave home. All-nighters on the town, bars with exotic drinks, and beautiful women…...I sometimes wonder how I survived! I served six years and lived in or visited Orlando, Chicago, Virginia Beach, Seattle, Tacoma, San Diego, Philippine Islands, Hong Kong, Hawaii, Midway Island, San Diego, Acapulco, Long Beach, Taiwan, Japan, Singapore, and Australia. At least that’s all I can remember! Thanks for looking!

Great work, Mike! I was there too, and spent several nights in all-night movies to have a place to sleep off the ship…

Funny! I was a Machinist’s Mate in the Navy, and have seen plenty of those sorts of eyes after a liberty call.
I’m reminded of the phrase, “One to drink, one to spill and one for the Shore Patrol!”. lol

LOL Mike !!
ALL that you said, I can identify with !! (21 years in the Navy).
not necessarily on the West Coast, but the North Atlantic and “Med”
is the same with any 18-19 year old kid with his first time away from home.
another job WELL DONE !! thanks for sharing.
(I have a photo of me with almost that exact pose, I will try to find it).
