Walnut & Curly Maple Dresser

Completed a variation on the The Wood Whisperer Modern Dresser. This one constructed from curly maple and walnut. This 5-drawer chest has 3/4” maple drawer boxes with walnut fronts and a beveled walnut top. The faux stiles on the side panels add a subtle mission-style accent. Along with the walnut top, it helps to make this piece unique indeed.

The drawer fronts are rather unique, in that they are successive cuts from the same walnut board, in order. Some don’t like sapwood showing, but the variation in color I find quite nice. The top is similar in that it is bookmatched to accent the sapwood. We really wanted to accent the curly maple as well, reserving it for the legs and it is truly stunning. As far as finish, we used a Mohawk vinyl sealer and a satin conversion varnish. We will be adding a matching nightstand layer this year to finish out her bedroom set.

My daughter is quite the happy camper, as this matches the bed frame I completed for her a few months back. Its truly and heirloom piece that she will be able to keep for a long time to come.

Wow! That is beautiful. The contrast in wood really pops.
Congratulations on a fine job.

That looks great. I like how the drawer fronts with more character ended up at the top and bottom.

I really like the interplay of the maple and walnut colours, with the pale parts of the drawer fronts matching the maple sides. Well done!

Very nice job on this dresser. I like the look of the continuous walnut boards as well as the curly maple. I’ll keep an eye out for your nightstand build. This is a great build and design. Congrats!

I’m always a sucker for a maple/walnut combination. Nice work.
