I finally got fed up with my store bought base for my Jet jointer. Only two of the casters on it rotate requiring four point turns to get around my small shop.
I salvaged the materials for this base from an older planer stand I had made but no longer used. It’s a construction lumber frame with 3/4 ply on the bottom to hold the jointer. The casters are mounted using door hinges and springs hold the catch to keep the casters extended when moving the jointer.
It’s not the prettiest thing I’ve made but it works well.

Stellar job on building the jointer base. It should serve you well for many years to come. Shop built projects are always the best ones to build…..!!

That is exactly why I went with the Bora Portamate for my Laguna table saw. All the wheels swivel. There is nothing worse than having the shopping cart effect on a heavy piece of machinery.
Nice job on the home brew base.

I am going through the exact same issue on my 54A jointer. I even have that same base. So I will be steaing this great idea. :) Now I just have to figure out changing the fixed wheels on my Sawstop PCS mobile base. The industrial base is out of the budget right now. Dan
