When life gives you scraps, make a table

So, I was looking at all these oak stairing pieces that were left over from replacing the stairs to the basement. I am a person who does not like wasting wood, so I made a table to donate to a consignment shop which does a 50/50 split between them and the VFW. So, to explain how this was done I had oak stairs which were bought from Lowe’s. They were made by gluing 2”X 2” by approximately 3’ oak strips together, then they apply a oak veneer over it. The stairs were not as wide as the treads so I cut them and used the left over pieces to make this table top. So in doing this, I cut strips from the side profile of about 1/4”then cut them to accommodate the angles so they would fit in the pattern on a 5/8” piece of plywood. Then I created the legs from scrap pine. This is the end result.

I once heard an older Man say that it was a scrappy little table. Thinking now he was talking about one of these.

Good on you for the woodworking donation to a good cause. It sure looks like a table.

I, too, “am a person who does not like wasting wood.” You’ve made a very attractive, functional table for a worthwhile cause. Thanks for sharing.
