My wife decided to take up the hobby of rug hooking. Not the type of rug hooking that comes in a kit, though… the REAL stuff, with club membership and custom fabrics and artistic bent.

And thus she needed a custom-built rug hooking frame and stand with which to embrace her new hobby.

The frame top rotates 360°, and tilts in every direction. It is held in position by a clamping system that utilizes and 1-1/4” trailer hitch ball. The post also tilts, and the base is tapered towards the user to allow for the feet to be placed on it comfortably.

Along the perimeter of the top frame are strips on nails embedded into wood, that allow the fabric backing of the rug to be stretched over the frame and held in place.

Made of Beech wood (the frame) and Hickory (the base)

I made one, years ago, for my wife although not as nice as yours. She made one rug and now it sits in the attic for the past five years. I enjoyed making it though.

Super cool! I like the hitch idea for the pivot. I’m curious to see what the rugs look like!
