I wanted a nice pen with a twist cap for myself for the holiday, but without spending a ton of money. I’ve made a couple of the Apprentice kits in the past, so figured I could finish this one. Of course, when ordering, I didn’t pay attention to the fine print and didn’t order the different bushings and bits. Oh, well. Live and learn.

The Satina turns nicely and has a great smell on the lathe. The finish on the kit is top notch, and though I squeezed the press too hard during assembly and slightly crushed the threads on the cap fitting, a little work with needle nose pliers fixed me right up.

All in all, a nice budget kit for a cool pen. I replaced the ink cartridge with a top model from Levenger’s, so it writes beautifully, which is the real measure of a pen. For about $15 total expense, this kit makes a nice pen.
