I made this box for my neighbor who helped me last summer when I was out of commission.( threw my back out)
The box is made out of Jabota with Paduek splines. The insert on the lid is figured maple veneer both inside and out. The finish is clear shellac and satin water base poly. This small box was a real challenge to build!

Sleek, elegant; and I know a fair amount of thought went into fabricating the top, which looks great with the fine border detail.

This is a great looking box especially like you sloped sides and splines. I’m sure your neighbor was pleased

The slope on the sides and slope on the lid play nice together. Well done.

Well done! Scratching my head on how you did the sloped sides and splines. That is impressive.

I made the box just like any other box with mitered corners and inserted the splines. After it dried i cut the angle on the table saw and then used a round over bit on my router table to round over the bottom.

The figured Maple especially turns that into a beauty complimenting the Jatoba. Adding in the slanted sides and you have a winner. Very nice.
