This is a Christmas gift for a great nephew who is a baseball fanatic.
I started with a irregular baseball blank from Rockler. I was impressed with the quality of the blank I received.

I took the bat to a guy who did a laser engraving of the recipients initials, “WBC”. Thanks to someone on this board, in the forum, who suggested this. It came out great.
I got a little carried away with the sanding and finishing. I sanded it to 400 grit and gave it 3 coats of polyurethane. It has to be smoother than any bat in MLB. However, this will be more of a show piece than an action piece. The recipient is only 8 years old and it will be a few years before he can actually use a bat this large. It’s a 32 inch bat.
I recommend this as a great project for anyone who has a special person who would like their own engraved bat.

By golly, it looks like a real baseball bat. Nice work Rich, and the engraving is a nice touch.

I’m glad you mentioned what WBC meant, I was thinking it was to beat the folks at the Westboro Baptist Church! What a cool idea for a build! Great job! If/when he uses it, pine tar will take care of the slickness.
