a box

My sister in law asked me if I could build her a box for her business and promptly send me a picture she found on internet as an example and rough dimensions.
I’m am not going to show you guys this picture for fear you will never return to this website and quit woodworking, let’s just say it was a very ugly box violating every law of wood movement and abusing the usage of screws, nails and proportions.

Pass the initial shock I told her I will work on it IF I could have some design inputs with respect to the example she used.

I used some cherry, resisted the appeal of the CNC and proceeded to hand cut some dovetails with some good music and it was refreshing. They are a bit on the loose side so I definitely need to refresh this skill set – too much CNC kill the dovetails as they say…

Soon after I decided to fire up the CNC to engrave the logo of her business and then glued the box, cut the lid off at the table saw, cut a handle on the bandsaw, added the hardware and voila.

Finish is simple beeswax as the box will carry food product I’m told.

She was very pleased with the result and carries the box everywhere she goes now but I’m a bit worried because I have seen looking at shelves on the internet….

Thanks for watching

Pierre

There is something fulfilling about a well crafted box with clean simple lines. Nice work.

Nice looking box, funny, I’m making a box for my #45 and the top design is exactly the same? Was going to go with a single latch on the front but may change my mind.

I opted for 2 latches for the lid since the handle is on top and I have no idea how heavy this will end up
