This is another willow burl box crafted from the reclaimed willow stump I rescued from the city.

I wanted to try something a little more complex this time so I started making intersecting circles with a compass on hardboard until I came up with something a little outside the box.

After cutting out the shape with the jigsaw I routed out from the less interesting side leaving enough meat on the base to cut the lid off with the bandsaw. This gives both the lid and the base the character of the more interesting side of the slab.

The lid is held in place with magnets which I covered with a cocobolo inlay. I just got the router template attachments and I’m excited to see what I can do with it.

Maybe not as showy as the other ones, but that box form is really interesting.

Nice job.
