Small cutting board/cheese tray made from Walnut, cherry, and padauk. I made this for my parents for xmas.
In retrospect, I wish I’d spent more time planning the pattern—I did this with kind of a “cut first, figure it out later” attitude. I still love how it turned out, though.

Looks good! I suppose they were happy with it, as for wishing you had spent more time in planning, rest assured that is always happing in woodworking it is one of the means of improving. Hang in there I am expecting to see some great project post from you in the future.

That looks really good. I do like the colours. I also tend to do things without thinking about the end result.
Sometimes I get a good result and other times I get a NOT SO GOOD result.

I actually really like that pattern! Honestly (IMO) sometimes deciding not to plan the final layout of these sorts of things ahead of time works out better. I know with the cutting boards I’ve made that’s pretty much how it’s ended up working out.
