After I finished remodeling the kitchen I decided I needed a bar. I carried the theme over from the kitchen. All cherry construction. Most of the sides and cabinets are made from cherry veneered plywood. I used solid cherry for the face frames and doors. Believe it or not the two large doors are solid cherry! I went to my favorite lumber yard to get some cherry plywood for the doors and started looking at the 4/4 pile. Low and behold at the bottom I see what looks like a rather wide piece. I start digging. I pull out an 8 foot piece 19 inches wide! I keep digging and pull out a second piece 18 inches wide! At this point all eyes were on my cart. Even the employees walked over and started measuring my wood (sorry couldn’t resist). There was actually a third piece but it had a nasty check in it so I decided to be a nice guy and leave it for someone else.

The wine rack was custom made as well. I have recently started playing with welding. I welded it up from scratch. I also welded the door handles. LED lights built into the drawers are on a micro switch at each door so the lights come on when opened. The lights in the top are on a dimmer. The finish is “natural” I use a solution of potassium Dichromate on the cherry that reacts with the tannin in the wood. It probably puts about 10 years on the wood in an hour. After that a great many coats of poly. I use copper veneer for the bar top just glued to plywood. And no I do not have a drinking problem. I just don’t like to limit myself.

That’s beautiful! I think it’s cool that you made the wine rack also. There are so many well done items in this build I’m so impressed. The lighting, the pull-outs, the copper top and the design are outstanding.

Beautiful project! I just want a list of your liquor cabinet… Some of my favorites!

Nice, great use of space. Great find on the wide cherry.
